Why this series exists
The guide is the start. The series is the next level.
The Wildflower Guide answers the most common questions in writing. But some families want a room they can ask questions in — a place to hear from other people going through the same thing, and a chance to think out loud before any decisions get made.
That's what this series is. Not a seminar where someone reads slides at you. A conversation, led by me, with the legal, financial, and housing realities laid out plainly. You leave with notes you can act on, not a binder you'll never open.
The 2026 calendar
Seven sessions, one through-line
You can come to one or come to all of them. Each stands on its own, but together they cover the full arc of a senior transition — from the first hard conversation to the last box unloaded.
1. The 5 Options When Mom Can't Live Alone
Saturday, June 27, 2026 — The first session of the series, and the one most adult children ask for. We walk through the five real options — from aging in place with support to assisted living, memory care, moving in with family, and selling to rightsizing — and how to tell which one actually fits your family's situation, not the brochure's.
2. Preparing for End of Life
Saturday, August 8, 2026 — The conversation nobody wants to have until they have to. Wills, advance directives, POA, the documents that matter, and how to have the talk with a parent while there's still time to plan instead of reacting in a crisis.
3. Probate Basics for Families
Saturday, June 27, 2026 — What probate actually is (and isn't), when a home has to go through it, how long it takes in Colorado, and what families can do ahead of time to make a probate sale smoother — or avoid one entirely.
4. How to Pay for Senior Living
Saturday, August 29, 2026 — Home equity, reverse mortgages, Medicaid look-back, long-term care insurance, VA benefits, and the order in which to use them. The money map, not the sales pitch.
5. The 5 Options When Mom Can't Live Alone
Saturday, July 11, 2026 — A deeper follow-up to Session 1 — we take a real family scenario (shared with permission) and work through the numbers, the timeline, and the emotional weight of each option together.
6. Downsizing Without the Chaos
Saturday, September 12, 2026 — The 6-to-9-month sequence that actually works: sort, donate, pack, list, close, settle. How to handle a lifetime of stuff without it swallowing the move, and how to keep siblings from fighting over the dining room table.
7. Avoiding Scams + Stress Sales
Saturday, September 26, 2026 — Senior homeowners are the #1 target for equity-stripping scams and high-pressure cash offers. We cover the red flags, the 'we buy houses' letters, and how to protect a parent — or yourself — from a deal you'll regret.
8. How to Sell a Home As-Is and Still Net Well
Saturday, October 24, 2026 — When fixing up the house before selling is the right call, and when it's money you'll never get back. How to price an as-is sale, what buyers expect, and how to keep more of the equity you've built over 30 years.
How to attend
Three ways to join a session
- 01
Check the calendar
Sessions run on Saturdays across 2026. Pick the ones that fit your family's stage — or come to the whole arc.
- 02
Reach out ahead of time
Send a quick note through the contact page with the session you're interested in. I'll send location details, what to bring, and a seat confirmation.
- 03
Show up and ask questions
No pitch, no contract, no pressure. Just an honest conversation and notes you can take home to your siblings and your parents.
“If the series answers your questions and you never list your home with me, that's a win. Education is the work. The relationship is the bonus.”
Maddie Cowger, SRES
